Katy Internal Medicine Associates (KIMA) is now offering About You® aesthetic services. These new services are designed for patients wanting simple improvements using BOTOX or injectable dermal fillers.

Aesthetic services offered at KIMA include:

• BOTOX
• Dermal fillers
• Sclerotherapy (spider vein treatment)
• Mole removal
• Skin tag removal
• Wart removal

BOTOX

BOTOX is a purified protein derived from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. Because facial muscles are employed to form our expressions, a series of lines and grooves appear on our faces with every smile, frown or scowl. As skin begins to lose its elasticity, the grooves that are formed during expressions become permanent lines and wrinkles.

By injecting BOTOX into these muscles, nerve impulses that trigger wrinkle-causing muscle contractions are blocked, creating a smooth appearance. Over a period of time, the lines get softer and in many cases eventually disappear completely.

Common areas treated with BOTOX:

• Forehead lines
• Frown lines
• Crow’s feet

Dermal Fillers

Injectable dermal fillers also smooth the skin’s appearance, but work differently than BOTOX. As skin ages, the dermis gradually loses its major constituents of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid, taking the vibrancy and life out of our faces. Fortunately science has a way to replace the beauty that time can take away from our skin. Dermal fillers are used to create volume and smooth areas of the skin that have aged and wrinkled over time. By injecting the dermal filler or gel into the skin, facial wrinkles and folds are plumped up, making the skin look smooth.

Common areas treated with dermal fillers:

• Smile lines (nasolabial folds)
• Lipstick lines
• Marionette lines (oral commissures)

Dermal fillers used at About You include Restylane®, JUVÉDERM® Ultra, Restylane-L® and JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC.

Sclerotherapy

About You® offers sclerotherapy, a medical procedure used to eliminate spider veins. By injecting a solution directly into the vein, sclerotherapy irritates the lining of the blood vessel, causing it to swell and stick together. Over time, the vessel turns into scar tissue that fades from view.

Other Minor Surgeries

About You® also offers care for minor skin injuries related to wounds, ulcers, minor burns and other skin problems.

All aesthetic services offered in the About You® program are medically supervised by Dr. Mehta and performed by Angela Welty, ACNP-BC. With over 14 years of experience, Angela is certified in aesthetic procedures, wound care, biopsies and lesion removal. For more complicated dermatological problems, we’ll refer you to a specialist.

Most aesthetic services are not covered by insurance and require payment by the patient at
the time of the service.
